Our story: where roots run deep

Oddball Homestead and Shearing began the way most good farm stories do—with a stubborn heart, a garden and some back yard chickens followed by a few unlikely sheep, and a deep respect for doing things the right way. What started as a simple desire to care for animals and live closer to the land slowly grew into something bigger. We didn’t set out to build a business—we set out to build a life. One rooted in honest work, muddy boots, and the quiet rhythm of chores at sunrise and sunset.

From passion to purpose

Along the way, we discovered the world of fiber. Fleeces full of character, sheep with stories, and wool that deserved better than to be tossed aside. We learned to shear with patience and skill, always putting the animal first. We listened to experienced shepherds, practiced tirelessly, and built trust flock by flock. The name Oddball came naturally. We welcomed the sheep that didn’t quite fit, the fleeces others overlooked, and the people who felt more at home in a barn than a storefront. What some saw as imperfect, we saw as worthy.

What oddball stands for

At Oddball Homestead and Shearing, our beliefs guide every choice we make—from how we handle animals to how we share fiber with the world. Animals come first. Sheep are not machines. Calm handling, patience, and respect are non-negotiable. If it isn’t good for the animal, it isn’t good enough for us. Fiber matters. Every fleece represents time, care, and life. No wool is "waste" just because it’s imperfect. We believe in rescuing fleeces and honoring their full potential.

The unexpected journey of shearing

Our shearing journey started out of necessity—we couldn't find anyone else to shear our sheep. As soon as Monti started, it spread like wildfire. He never initially wanted to shear for others, but once he began, it quickly transformed into a deep passion, not just for the sheep themselves, but for their shepherds too. This unexpected path allowed us to serve our community and connect with so many others who share our love for animals and honest work.

"Community feeds the homestead"

Whether through teaching, sharing fiber, or meeting at the farm stand, relationships are as important as products.
